What Is The Best Brick Cleaning Method?
Water Based Brick Cleaning in Surrey
Our elite DOFF Integra cleaning system is ideal when the brick cleaning job needs a ‘no chemical and no pressure’ brick c methodology. Our brick cleaning methods are sensitive but especially when cleaning Surrey heritage sites, listed buildings in Surrey and other places of special interest in Surrey, our brick cleaning approach is as considered as it can be to ensure sure that no damage is caused during the brick cleaning process. Our English engineered DOFF steam cleaning system is crafted to apply a low pressure but super effective brick cleaning solution.
We have invested in the DOFF Integra for brick cleaning in Surrey because the system is largely recognised, and approved by English Heritage as a result of it’s gentle brick cleaning approach. Conservation cleaning specialists reccommend the DOFF cleaning system for all types of conservation cleaning including bricks, statutes, stone details and more. Our steam-based cleaning system achieves temperatures of up to 150C at the nozzle so can remove flexible paints, organic growth, dirt and grime with ease and all without needing high-pressure or chemicals.
Chemical Brick Cleaning in Surrey
Chemical brick cleaning or chemical assisted brick cleaning ( some people also call this acid brick cleaning) is used if the job involves removing of very heavy carbon sulphur deposits. The chemical brick cleaning a.k.a acid brick cleaning approach involves applying a coating of specifically engineered brick cleaning chemicals or brick cleaning acids to the brick surface which will have already been pre-saturated with water. Once the carbon build up on the brick has started the process of breaking down we then use our specialist brick cleaning machinery to clean the bricks using low pressure.
Once the carbon sulphation has been removed the brick will return to it’s original colour. Chemical brick cleaning, which some refer to as acid brick cleaning is an extremley specialist and highly effective way to remove carbon from old brickwork. We particularly use this method in Surrey and other areas where traffic and pollution build up has contributed to signifcant carbon sulphur buildup on bricks.

Our brick cleaning process depends firstly on client requirements and also on the physical condition of the brickwork. Whichever method we use to clean your bricks you can be rest assured that because we are cleaning experts with specialist equipment we won’t damage your brickwork but will eliminate unsightly soiling whilst restoring the brick to it’s original color.
As Surrey brick cleaning professionals we have expertise in cleaning the wide variety of pollutants, contaminants and dirt that settles both organically and intentionally (like grafitti) on your brickwork.
Many beautiful homes and buildings in Surrey have been discoloured and dirtied by atmospheric pollutants and weathering which can sadly conceal the detail, beauty and colour of the origial brickwork. Plus there is the problem of moss build up. Moss build up on bricks is a natural process, but when you combine moss buildup with pollution it can depreciate the brick work on buildings in Surrey significantly. Stunning detailing and designs on buildings exterior brickwork becomes obsucrued by dirt buildup.
We have brick cleaning methods from acid brick cleaning, to steam cleaning using the highly specialist DOFF Integra, designed and crafted in England by Stonehealth to clean and restore your brickwork.
Once we have cleaned your brickwork, the decorative elements often blighted by dirt for many years on Surrey buildings can be treasured and admired again.
More often than not, buildings will have several types of hard surface, e.g bricks and render or bricks and timber. Once we have cleaned the brickwork, it will very likely seem to amplify the presence of dirt build up on other materials in your property facade. We are alwaysavailable to suggest other services we can provide to improve the overall appearance of your property.
We use our DOFF Steam cleaning in Surrey regularly because of the fantastic cleaning range that this specialist cleaning system can provide. If we use the DOFF Integra for any brick cleaning on your property, the cleaning results will likely impress you so much that may you decide to get another part of your property cleaned. Can I Pressure Wash My Bricks?
You could, but we wouldn’t definately would not recommend it.
Pressure washing can be a brilliant and very effectve way to freshen the appearance of a surface. However, the issue with pressure washing is that the extreme pressure exerted on the surface, in this case the bricks, can cause damage to the bricks and the mortar.
Other key things to remember is:
- atmospheric soiling is not water soluble, so if you have heavy carbon sulphur (black, pollution spots) on your brickwork – it’s never going to become clean through pressure washing alone and the amount of time you will spend trying to clean it with a pressure washer will almost certainly damage your brickwork.
- abrasive cleaning is extremley damaging and should be avoided
Essentially, any cleaning method involving ONLY water will just remove loosely adherent dirt, unless you apply excessively high pressure which we would never recommend. The best way to get your bricks cleaned propery and safely (espcially in London due to the carbon build up) is to get a professional brick cleaning service.
What Can the DOFF system clean?
DOFF Integra can clean ingrained surface contaminants from a whole host of different surfaces including stone surfaces, brickwork, tiled surfaces, metals and commercial cladding.
Because the DOFF system doesn’t use high pressure to force water droplets into the substrate (and potentially erode any soft surface) it is essential for cleaning heritage sites and listed buildings – or any building where conservation and delicate restoration is key.
DOFF can also remove most oil and plastic-based paint, algae, moss, fungi, wax, chewing gum, bitumen, oil and grease, bird poo and graffiti.
How Much Does Brick Cleaning Cost?
We get so many e-mails asking how much brick cleaning in London costs or how much it costs for brick cleaning paint removal that we’ve dedicated a whole page to answering those very questions.
