Which Steam Cleaning Machine Is The Best?

We often get asked which specialist steam cleaning system is better, the DOFF or the ThermaTech? It’s abit like comparing a Ferrari with a Lamborghini, choosing Harrods or Fortnum & Mason, deciding on a Merlot over a Pinot Noir, popping into Waitrose or Marks & Spencer’s. The reality is that both the DOFF and the ThermaTech are in a range of their own. Both offer exceptional build quality, high temperature at the nozzle and both deliver outstanding results time and time again. What is DOFF Cleaning ?

The DOFF is an expertly engineered system that utilises a normal water supply to remove some of the more resistant forms of dirt or markings from a range of surfaces. The DOFF system cleans stonework, masonry and more using high-temperature steam. Whilst the temperature in the DOFF unit is high, the pressure on the exterior element being cleaned is very mild and the volume of water is low. The surface being cleaned doesn’t get fully saturated and can dry within very little time. The superheated water vapor will remove paint, moss, algae, fungi and other biological matter and will also eradicate spores. This can mean that there is no requirement chemical biocide during the removal process or as a protection against further biological activity, unless specifically requested for a particular reason.

What is ThermaTech Cleaning ?

The ThermaTech is a flexible peice of equipment producing superheated water at temperatures up to 150ᵒC. It is expertly designed for masonry cleaning, paint removal and the removal of coatings removal on heritage and other structures of historic value or significance. It has been designed in 110v from the ground up to be both environmentally, user friendly, easy to transport and manoeuvre on site – which is invaluable for work on construction or building sites. The standard ThermaTech can be used by a single operator and the Thermatech INOX can be used by two operators.

DOFF Vs. ThermaTech – The Bottom Line

Our experience and technical expertise in exterior cleaning & paint removal has led us to use both the DOFF and ThermTech systems interchangeably unless the client or scope of works have a specific request for one system over the other. Each steam cleaning has its own features and advantages, and the choice between them depends on your specific needs and preferences.

If you are a building contractor considering buying your own unit or an architect preparing maintenance plan for a building you have designed or a construction company preparing a tender which specifically mentions DOFF or ThermaTech cleaning – there is no defined ‘best steam cleaning’ and the DOFF and ThermaTech systems are the only comparables we would ever consider.

Both systems are highly successful, but one might be more suitable for certain projects. For instance, if you need precise control for the restoration of delicate surfaces, you may find that the DOFF’s precision control may be beneficial but if portability and ease of use is your main consideration then you may favour the ThermaTech system. Both ThermaTech and DOFF steam cleaning machines produce high-temperature and low-pressure steam but the specific capabilities may vary. Naturally it is important to compare the costs of both systems, including initial purchase costs and any ongoing maintenance expenses.
