Our Heritage Cleaning Services
Torc / JOS Wet Abrasive Cleaning
TORC or JOS cleaning is ideal for carbon crust removal, lime scale & mineral deposits, paint residues, graffiti on sensitive substrates, detailed carvings and ornate stonework, black sulphation build-up common on London heritage buildings
TORC is conservation-friendly because it uses soft mineral abrasives (non-damaging), has a highly targeted application, is designed for micro-adjustment, removes crust without altering the underlying stone.
TORC is often used in combination with Nebulous Spray or DOFF to achieve a complete, conservation-approved façade restoration.
DOFF Steam Cleaning for Heritage Façades
The DOFF system uses superheated steam at 150°C delivered at extremely low pressure, making it suitable for cleaning algae, moss & lichens, biological growth, wax, bitumen & light paint residues along with organic staining
It cleans without saturating the surface and is approved for many historic substrates.
Nebulous Water Spray Cleaning
DSW Cleaning is a leading provider of Nebulous Water Spray Cleaning, a technique that uses a controlled fine mist to gradually soften carbon pollution, sulphation crusts, and atmospheric deposits without applying pressure, heat, or abrasives.
The benefits include:
-
Non-abrasive and conservation-approved
-
Zero mechanical or thermal stress
-
Ideal for porous and weathered stone
-
Minimises moisture saturation
-
Perfect for London pollution environments

Why Heritage Building Cleaning is Vital
Why Is Heritage & Listed Building Cleaning So Important?
The long term conservation of heritage & listed buildings is dependant on regular and cyclical cleaning and maintenance. The significance of a listed building or heritage site can diminish if long-standing maintenance schedules are discontinued
In general terms, owners of listed buildings should factor in that regular maintenance such as gutter cleaning or roof cleaning will prevent much more extensive and costly repairs being required at a later date.

How a Listed Building Cleaning Benefits a Building
It’s true that a good maintenance and regular cleaning programme will help to stop the accumulation and buildup of dirt but the ongoing effects of the weathering process on the the building is somewhat unavoidable. When you select a professional specialist listed building cleaning company they will:
Perform a thorough assessment of the listed building cleaning project , including preparing a risk assessment and method statement.
Discuss the listed building cleaning project with the owner of the property and the Local Authority if required.
Appropriately document the listed building cleaning process for your records.
A robust programme of listed building cleaning will significantly reduce the risk of deterioration of your listed building and reduce maintenance costs.
.
What is the Main Cause of Dirt on a Listed Building?
Biological – An extremely common cause of unsightly dirt and build up particularly on north facing listed buildings or listed buildings surrounded by trees – algae, lichen, bacteria, fungi etc. all of which have a detrimental effect on stonework.
Air pollution – The largest cause of damage to listed buildings is air pollution. Acid rain and soiling from air-borne particulates and from vehicular emissions can cause unsightly build up on your listed building.
Salts – Salts from sulfates and nitrates in the air or salts carried up from particularly saline soil can contaminate stonework because they very oftern crystallise within the stone. This is often looks like a white powdery buildup.
